What happens if your tires rub?

What happens if your tires rub?

Tire rub can be damaging as it means your wheel will be smashing into the wheel well whenever you hit a bump in the road. Without the proper clearance, your tire will rub against the wheel well and can potentially cause the tire to blow out.

What if my tires are too big?

If your tires are too large, the inside walls will rub against the wheel wells and will cause damage to the body of the vehicle as well to the walls of the tires. This could result in the tires causing severe damage in a matter of months.

Will wheel spacers stop my tires from rubbing?

Spacers allow a larger wheel and tire to be fitted without rubbing by creating clearance to interior wheel well components. Sometimes by moving the wheel and tire assembly outward from the hub, interior clearance is gained, but rubbing can then occur on the vehicle fender and/or wheel well liner.

What causes tire to rub strut?

If you run to wide of a wheel/tire, low tire pressure, or a wheel with the wrong offset the sidewall flex when cornering will cause the tire to rub the spring/strut. You should look into running a wheel spacer that is a few mm thick.

Can you change tire width?

Most vehicles will easily allow for you to change the width of the tire by one size, or 10 millimeters, without any negative affects. What do you have to pay attention to if you want to fit a different tire?
