Instead, they simply have to submit a ‘prior intimation’ letter to the Regional Passport Office while applying for a passport.

The NOC is issued by the controlling authority or administrative authority in the format of Annexure-M. The NOC helps Government servants and PSU employees obtain their passport. If only the NOC is submitted, then police verification is required and the passport will be issued only post police verification.

NOC (Not IC) is required for reissue of passport of expiry of passport/ exhaustion of visa pages etc. An employee may apply for an IC or NOC by submitting an application in the prescribed format (Annexure I). The validity of IC/ NOC will be six months from the date of issue.
