The typical Ranger contract is called an 11X. This means the Army will decide whether or not you will be a 11B (infantryman) or an 11C (mortarman) — the candidate does not get to choose this. It also means they will get a slot in the Ranger Regiment as long as they pass Basic Training, Airborne School, and RASP.
