Air Cadets receive training in subjects such as flying and gliding, survival skills, physical fitness, public speaking, citizenship, and precision drill.

Can they learn to fly? Yes, all cadets will have the opportunity to fly at one of the Air Experience Flights provided by the Volunteer Gliding Squadrons located around the country. Additionally, cadets can apply for scholarships up to Private Pilots Licence level!

The cadet experience is open to everyone, so whatever your nationality, background or ability, whether you’re male or female, if you’re between 13 (or 12 if in Year 8) and 17 years old you can join us.

You can join when you’re between 13, or 12 if you’re already in year 8 at school, and usually leave when you’re 20. The latest age you can joing is before your 17th birthday.

  1. Email from parent/guardian. An email from the cadet’s parent/guardian can be sent to the unit.
  2. Phone call. In outstanding circumstances, the cadet’s parent/guardian may call the unit phone number to verbally request for leave.
