Can you use ideal gas law for saturated vapor?

Can you use ideal gas law for saturated vapor?

The ideal gas law strictly applies only to ideal gases, which do not condense to form a liquid. This means that there is no vapor pressure associated with ideal gases, which are used to represent real gases that are at a temperature that is very much higher than their condensation temperature.

When can you treat steam as ideal gas?

If the vapour is water under atmospheric pressure and something between 100ºC and 1000ºC then it can be fairly assumed as an ideal gas. It will escape that assumption at higher pressures.

Is ideal gas equation applicable in saturated region?

Clearly, the ideal gas approximation does not work well for the majority of the saturated vapor line, as we would expect. However, the second figure shows that at low enough pressures, the ideal gas approximation is reasonably accurate, even on the saturated vapor line.

Which of the following can be treated as an ideal gas?

For a gas to be “ideal” there are four governing assumptions: The gas particles have negligible volume. The gas particles are equally sized and do not have intermolecular forces (attraction or repulsion) with other gas particles. The gas particles move randomly in agreement with Newton’s Laws of Motion.

Is saturated steam the same as saturated vapor?

If unsaturated steam (a mixture which contains both water vapor and liquid water droplets) is heated at constant pressure, its temperature will also remain constant as the vapor quality (think dryness, or percent saturated vapor) increases towards 100\%, and becomes dry (i.e., no saturated liquid) saturated steam.

Can gas be saturated?

Gas saturation obtained from relative permeability experiments in the condition of gas displacing water is 49.0\%–53.4\% (on average 51.47\%).

Does steam behave like an ideal gas?

Steam is not an ideal gas. Do not apply the ideal gas law to saturated steam. The concept is still valid, temperature goes up with pressure etc, but the values will be wrong. This is why every thermo book has steam tables in the back.

Why is water Vapour not an ideal gas?

Water does not form anything close to an ideal gas because of its hydrogen bonds. You have to heat water to 100 °C to make it boiling to overcome these bonds between molecules of liquid water. Molecules of water vapour interacts with each other as well, especially at high pressure.
