Can I use CPVC SharkBite on PVC?

SharkBite® PVC Fittings connect PVC pipe (Sch. 40, 80 and 120) to Copper, PEX, CPVC, and PE-RT pipe with no solder, clamps, unions or glue.

Will SharkBite fittings work on CPVC?

SharkBite brass push-to-connect fittings are compatible with PEX, Copper, CPVC, PE-RT and SDR-9 HDPE pipe. SharkBite fittings come with a PEX stiffener pre-loaded into the fitting for PEX, PE-RT and SDR-9 HDPE. The PEX stiffener does not need to be removed for Copper or CPVC applications.

Can PVC and CPVC be glued together?

PVC cement (or glue) does not work like regular glue. This means old-fashioned PVC cement will not be fully effective on CPVC. There is no special “CPVC to PVC glue,” so chemically joining CPVC and PVC requires solvent cement and primer that are strong enough to fully bond CPVC pipe.

Can you put PVC and CPVC together?

A: Yes. CPVC solvent cement technically will work on PVC piping. However, we recommend that the correct Weld-On primer and PVC solvent cement for the particular application should be used. Please note that PVC solvent cement, because of temperature limitations, is not recommended for CPVC piping.

Can you join PVC and CPVC?

There is no special “CPVC to PVC glue,” so chemically joining CPVC and PVC requires solvent cement and primer that are strong enough to fully bond CPVC pipe. Immediately apply a light layer of CPVC cement to the area that is primed outside the pipe and inside the fitting.
