A National Registration Identification Card, or NRIC, is the identity document used in Singapore for Singaporeans and permanent resident of Singapore. A Foreign Identification Number, or FIN, is issued to an individual who is a long-term pass holders by the Singapore government.

What can someone do with your NRIC number?

  • date and time of birth, as well as which hospital (if the person was born in Singapore, otherwise it would just be country of birth)
  • father’s name.
  • mother’s name.
  • address.
  • schools attended.
  • hospitalization records.
  • immunisation records.

How do I find my NRIC number?

How do I verify that my NRIC is registered to my mobile number? To check whether your NRIC is correctly registered to your mobile number, send CHECK to 21555; e.g. type CHECK 500909140009 and send to 21555. You will be notified on whether the NRIC you entered matches your registered NRIC.

Is Aadhaar Card Government ID?

Aadhaar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of the Government of India. The number serves as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India.

Is it safe to give NRIC number?

You may simply show your NRIC if a company just needs to check your identity. Unless required by law, don’t let companies keep your NRIC (even if it’s temporary).

Is it safe to give ID number?

Do not carry your Identity document, birth certificate or passport with you unless needed. Do not give your banking details, identity number or personal details over the phone as a fraudster may phone, posing as a bank employee or government agent.

Can I give my IC number?

As reported in our Legal News article, with effect from 1 September 2019 it will be illegal for organisations to collect, use or disclose Singapore National Registration Identification Card (NRIC) numbers, or make copies of the NRIC.
