What are the changes in BS6 vehicles?
BS6 fuel has lower sulphur content than BS4 fuel. The sulphur content in BS6 fuel is five times lower (10ppm) as compared to sulphur content in BS4 fuel (50ppm). And, the nitrogen oxide level for the BS6 diesel engine and petrol engine will be brought down by 70\% and 25\%.
What is the change of BS4 to BS6?
1st April 2020
India transitioned from BS4 to BS6 completely on 1st April 2020. BS6 or Bharat Stage 6 is the new emission norm implemented by the Central Government. According to the norms laid down by the Central Government of India, the automotive industry in the country transitioned from BS4 to BS6 from 1st April 2020.
Is BS6 banned in India?
The central government has mandated that vehicle makers must manufacture, sell and register only BS-VI (BS6) vehicles from April 1, 2020. Followed these, the catalytic converter became mandatory for petrol vehicles and unleaded petrol was introduced in the market.
Does BS6 engine gives more mileage?
Yes. In layman terms, a BS6-compliant engine will be more restricted in comparison and will thereby result in a minor drop in power and efficiency. For example, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire with the 1.2-litre BS6-compliant petrol engine is claimed to return 21.21 kmpl.
What is BS6 compliant car?
BSVI or BS6 is the sixth emission benchmark or criterion in reducing pollution levels when compared to the BSIV or BS4 emission norms. Both are the maximum emission norms which set the maximum pollution from the exhaust of the motor vehicle.
How do I know if my fuel is BS6?
Petrol vehicles that meet BS6 standards must emit no more than 60mg/km of NOx (Nitrogen Oxides). In the case of the BS4 vehicle, the limit was 80mg/km. In petrol engines with direct injection, the particulate matter (PM) limit has also been set at 4.5mg/km. Diesel vehicles have stricter emission standards.
Why BS6 engines are expensive?
Complying with these stricter emission norms require comprehensive changes to be made to the engines. These include adding new hardware like bigger catalytic converters, DPF, etc. This extra hardware is the reason why BS 6 vehicles are costlier as compared to their BS 4 models.
