To deal with the hostel crunch, IITs will make arrangements outside campus. It can be residential areas or private hostels that will have hostel-like facilities. Right now even if a student’s family stays in the same city he has to stay in hostel.

Is IIT fully residential?

All the IITs provide on-campus residential facilities to the students, research scholars and faculty. The students live in hostels (sometimes referred to as halls) throughout their stay in the IIT.

Can IIT live outside?

You can stay outside the college . But if you stay outside NIT Bhopal you cannot participate in the weekly activities conducted in the college . The facilities provided in the hostel are very good and you also have a Wi-fi provided in the college .

The Logical Indian IIT Roorkee has lifted the restrictions on its girls hostels, bringing the rules on par with those for the boys hostels.

Is it compulsory to stay in an on campus hostel at IITD?

There is absolutely no compulsion to stay in an on campus hostel. U can stay wherever u want. U may rent an apartment or stay with a relative. IITD has no problem with it. Moreover, people living in Delhi have a low chance of getting to stay in a hostel if they live nearby the campus.

Is it mandatory for a BBS student to stay in hostels only?

There are many students who are from BBS No, it’s not mandatory that you have to stay in the hostels only but IITs won’t reduce your hostel or mess fees. You have to pay the hostel & mess fees along with institute fees like others. So if you are staying at home or any other place near IIT, it’s kind of waste of money.

Is it mandatory to stay in the campus of a university?

Yes, it is mandatory to stay in campus. Students maybe excused if they can convince the administration that they are immense morons and don’t have any capacity to deal with difficult situations. Medical reasons are a different issue though I have seen physically challenged students staying in hostels.

Is it mandatory to live in Chandigarh while studying at IIT Ropar?

You can say it is mandatory from money point of view. The Institute will not exempt you from mess and hostel fees fully. There were people at IIT Ropar living in chandigarh and Ropar, but according to rules they were exempted for 10-12 days per month for the mess fees on special request.
