Are PCB antennas good?

Are PCB antennas good?

PCB trace antennas are a good compromise between performance, repeatability, size, and cost. They are easy to tune. The performance will vary greatly with small changes in length and shape of the antenna. I used a wire antenna for my first wireless project and it carried about 40-50 feet under good conditions.

How can I boost my NFC signal?

To increase the range you have to increase the RF field to keep the tag powered, but if you do that you make it harder for the tag to answer. That’s why NFC only works up to 15cm. The range limit is designed into the technology and it’s a security feature of NFC.

How does a PCB antenna work?

PCB antenna is a transducer converting current waves into electromagnetic (EM) waves in a high-frequency PCB. PCB antennas convert current in high frequency into EM waves that propagate into the air. One antenna acts as the radio frequency signal transmitted, and the other acts as the reflected RF signal receiver.

How does NFC antenna work?

An active device (usually a mobile phone) generates a local magnetic field which induces an electric current in the antenna of the passive device (the NFC Tag). This electrical energy powers the NFC Chip which creates a further magnetic field in it’s antenna which can be read by the active device (the phone).

Why are GPS antennas ceramic?

As the ceramic acts as a gateway for RF signal, the larger the patch, the wider range of bands the antenna can effectively operate on. By contrast, a surface mountable antenna can work effectively on these wide frequency bands.

Can NFC be boosted?

The Infineon Boosted NFC Secure Element is designed for mobile payment services via active boost transmission technology. The Boosted NFC Secure Element provides financial transactions, SIM/UICC functionality as well as other NFC card functions on one device.

Does NFC have antenna?

Every NFC device requires an antenna. You can’t send and receive data without one. The figure shows a typical antenna for a tag.

Is NFC an antenna?

The antenna used in NFC devices such as tags and readers will have loop structure. It operates at 13.56 MHz frequency. NFC antenna is widely used in NFC compliant mobiles, NFC payment readers, wallets, ID scanners, data loggers, ticketing systems and more applications.
