Zen says it is a waste of your time to practice Zen if you do not work with a teacher. So, of course you can practice zazen without a teacher; just don’t expect to get anywhere from your efforts. Tibetan Buddhism is even worse .. THEY say their practices will make you crazy if you don’t practice with a teacher.
