How does USNA ship selection work?
The order of ship selection is based on merit. Class members are ranked in overall order of merit based upon academic, professional, and physical fitness standings. In order of ranking, Midshipmen are able to make a selection from the list.

This means ALL students who attend the Naval Academy do so on a full scholarship in return for 5 years of active duty service upon graduation.

This process includes identifying the service plans and service agreements in your setup, and from those, assigning the capital projects, facilities projects, or individual tasks to service providers. Service providers include internal responsible organizations and external service organizations.

Surface Warfare Officers (SWOs) are trained extensively to maintain and operate these ships, their crews and their systems. Directing personnel operations aboard Navy vessels, such as aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, amphibious warfare ships, mine warfare ships and frigates.

What do Naval Academy graduates do?
After graduation, you will be commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy or Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. After commissioning, you will serve a minimum of five years on active duty. Becoming a Midshipman at the USNA is the first step to a life of service to the Navy or Marines, and your country.
What does a Navy special warfare officer do?
As an Officer in Special Warfare, you might: Assist the United States Secret Service in protecting dignitaries. Direct and perform parachute/helicopter insertions. Collect information about enemy military installations in coastal areas.
Cryptologic Technicians Interpretive (CTIs), serve as the Navy’s experts in linguistics (including Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Persian-Farsi, Russian and Spanish) and deciphering information in other languages. Their responsibilities include: Collecting and analyzing foreign language communications of interest.
