How much better are golf clubs now than 10 years ago?

There is no evidence that golf clubs deteriorate over time. Well maintained clubs will last a lifetime. 10+ year old clubs should be checked for better options but clubs less than 5 years old do not need replacing except for wear and tear issues to which wedges and forged irons are most vulnerable.

Are new golf irons better than old?

Today’s irons compared to your current ones are faster and considerably more forgiving. Shafts—even stock shafts—have gotten better, too. And if you don’t feel like ponying up full boat for a new set, try a used-club outlet such as Global Golf and consider a set that’s only two or three years old.

Are golf clubs better now?

As you know golf is a very challenging game, and playing the wrong equipment will make it that much harder for you. On the whole, the clubs being produced now are very impressive. It would be difficult to argue that any golfer could pick up a club from 40 years ago and have better performance than one produced today.

Has golf iron technology improved?

The good news is the technology in irons is vastly improved over the past 15 years, sort of like how baseball bats are better now that they’re not made of wood anymore. Those technologies came to drivers first, because, well, as has been said, chicks dig the long ball.

Do golf irons lose distance over time?

Golf irons will wear out over time. For an average golfer that plays golf a few times or practices a few times a week, you should get a good 7-10 years out of a set of irons. After this period, you may notice that in addition to the grooves being worn out, the ball doesn’t travel as far as it used to.

How often should you replace golf irons?

A good estimation is for low handicap and regular golfers to replace the set of irons after approximately three hundred rounds or around four to five years. This will prevent the clubs from wearing out in places where you regularly strike the ball and keep you abreast of technological advances.

Will new irons increase distance?

Year-over-year, distance increases in new equipment are generally minimal. If you bought a driver in 2019, the 2020 model may only be 1-2 yards longer. But, if you have a driver from 2004, then the 2020 model could be 20+ yards longer.

When should you buy new irons?

Professional golfers who practice and play virtually every day can go through multiple sets of irons a year due to how quickly they can wear down the grooves. Generally for club golfers changing your irons every year is going to be overkill and looking at new options every three to four years is a better time frame.

Is there really a difference in golf irons?

The quality of golf clubs does make a difference, but the change only increases with your skill level. A pro would not play as well with lower quality off-shelf Golf Clubs, but the difference between cheap good quality clubs and more expensive branded clubs for an amateur is not significant.
