Will any SFP work with any switch?

Will any SFP work with any switch?

As long as the SFP modules are compatible with the switch they are installed in, the traffic between switches does not matter. 10G ethernet is not brand specific meaning you can have a Cisco switch with an SFP connected via fiber to an HP switch and the links will work fine.

Are SFP modules brand specific?

Instead of being standardized by official standards, SFP is specified by MSA. It defines SFP modules including the size, connectors, and signaling to assure SFP modules are compatible with branded SFP devices.

Can I use Cisco SFP on HP switch?
