>The discharge valve of the pump has to be closed during startup. This is maintained so, inorder to prevent sudden load on the power system, if the valve is open. If the valve is open and the pump is switched on, there is a sudden power load corresponding to the flow rate.

What happens when a valve closes?

When the left ventricle contracts, the mitral valve closes and the aortic valve opens. This is so blood flows into the aorta and out to the rest of the body. While the left ventricle is relaxing, the right ventricle also relaxes.

Reciprocating Pump: A positive displacement pump which utilizes a plunger or piston to change a cavity’s volume, and produce a pressure differential. A plunger pump operates using the reciprocating motion of plungers or pistons. Depending on the design of the pump, the use of a single or multiple plungers may be used.

Why Priming is important in reciprocating pumps?

Its flow rate capacity is high as compared to reciprocationg pump. Its flow is continues. Its suction and discharge valves are not opened or closed periodically. So priming is necessary to remove air or gases from piping and pump body to reduce the phenomena of Gaseous Cavitation.

What causes valves to close?

When the two atrium chambers contract, the tricuspid and mitral valves open, which both allow blood to move to the ventricles. When the two ventricle chambers contract, they force the tricuspid and mitral valves to close as the pulmonary and aortic valves open.

Is priming required for positive displacement pump what will happen if the delivery valve for centrifugal pump remain closed?

So we need not have priming operation in positive displacement pumps. Whereas in Centrifugal Pumps, the pumping action is generated by the transfer of rotational energy from the impeller to the liquid. There are no seals between the suction and discharge sides of the pump making it ineffective with gases.

What is a delivery valve?

A delivery valve includes a body defining a chamber into which from one end thereof extends a tubular support member. The interior of the member is connected to the outlet of a fuel pump and an outlet extends from the chamber to a fuel nozzle.
