Yes, you may change your employer after your STEM OPT has been authorized. You must report any change of employer or employer address within 10 days. If you change your employer, you must update the ISSO through our Employment/Address Update Reporting Form.

If the final non-confirmation by E-verify was wrong (an error in their own database that they failed to correct within 10 days) and an employer terminates an employee upon receiving the non-confirmation, the employer may be liable for wrongful termination and national origin or unfair immigration-related claims.

Can I work on contract on STEM opt?

So, while it’s not impossible to undertake contract work on the STEM OPT, it’s exceptionally difficult given the restrictions placed on employers by USCIS. It’s unlikely that international graduates – and their employers – will be able to meet all the criteria to make short-term contract work a reality on the STEM OPT.
