IF I FIND THE RESERVES IS NOT FOR ME CAN I LEAVE? Yes, of course you can. We understand that the RAF Reserves may not be for everyone but we would ask that you let your squadron boss know why you want to leave just in case he/she can make changes that may enable you to stay.

Can you leave RAF during basic training?

Training days are highly structured, no leave is given and the immaturity of recruits is recognised through high supervision levels both during working hours and out-of-hours. New recruits are not required to do armed guard duty in any of the services whilst training.

Can I leave the RAF after 3 years?

If you want to leave full-time employment in the RAF within the initial 12 years, it is possible to transfer to the reserves for 3 years, to complete your obligations. Once you have completed your 12 years of service, in most instances, you must give 18 months’ notice of your intention to leave the service.
