What is PAG lubricant?

What is PAG lubricant?

PAG oil: Polyalkylene Glycol or PAG oil is a man-made lubricant used in both R134a systems and the latest R1234yf. Today it is still used in older R-12 refrigerant systems. And because it does not absorb moisture, it is also used to lubricate O-rings and seals in both R-12 and R134a systems.

What is Pao engine oil?

Poly Alpha Olefin or PAO is a 100\% synthetic base oil stock used in the production of high performance lubricants. PAO’s typically have a higher viscosity index than mineral oils and better oxidative stability- i.e.they are less likely to breakdown.

Is Poe oil the same as PAG oil?

Polyolester (POE) – the primarily synthetic oil for refrigeration systems using HFC refrigerants. Polyalkylene Glycol (PAG) – a synthetic oil primarily used in R-134a automotive air conditioning systems. It is more hygroscopic that either POE or PVE oils, but it does not undergo hydrolysis in the presence of water.

Where do you put PAG oil?

Pour the oil very slowly into the intake port or low side of the compressor. This is where the large line entered. While pouring in the refrigerant oil, rotate the hub and clutch slowly to let the oil enter the compressor.

What is Polyalphaolefins?

PAOs are specially designed chemicals made from alpha olefins. They are used in many synthetic products such as lubricants, greases and fluids, and have emerged as essential components in many industries and applications.

Can you mix PAG and POE oil?

PAG oil and POE oil do not mix properly. A high percentage of POE will reduce lubrication performance.

Should I add oil when replacing AC condenser?

When replacing a part like the condenser it is a good idea to add some extra oil with the new refrigerant. Most refrigerants do have some oil in them which should be enough. The majority of the oil in the system stays in the compressor so you should not have any issues if you do not add any more.

Can you add too much oil to AC compressor?

Yes. AC systems are designed to have a certain amount of refrigerant and a certain amount of oil. Adding too much oil will hinder performance. If you add way too much oil, you displace refrigerant which is needed to cool the compressor and it could lead to compressor burn out.

What is polyglycol oil?

The terms polyalkylene glycol and polyglycol are used interchangeably. These fluids can be manufactured to be either water soluble or water insoluble (oil soluble). They burn off cleanly, leaving no residue, and have been used as a carrier oil for solid lubricants for high-temperature chain lubrication.
