Are Adoptables illegal?
If you sell a design that is (or is almost like) somebody else’s design, you can get banned from dA for art theft. To sell an adoptable, it has to be a design you made that you are willing to sell to someone else for the trade of your choice.
How do adoptable characters work?
An adoptable is a right to use the character created by another person in any way that they want moving forward (unless the artist has created some restrictions). A license in this sense is, simply, the right to use something. In this case, it’s the right to use the character, and that’s what someone is purchasing.
