Squadrons will normally be deployed and fall under a Joint Task Force (JTF) or a Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force (CJSOTF) as a Special Operations Task Force (SOTF). A SEAL team’s mission takes as long as it takes. In my time, our deployments were 9 to 12 months on ship. With not all time being at sea. There were no computer’s, nor cell phones. We used mail, and land line phone calls to stay in touch with family and friends. In my case we went on West-Pac every other year.
