What is catenary support?

What is catenary support?

The Aerial Catenary Support System (ACSS) is a small, remote controlled battery powered tug, which drives along the existing conductor carrying a high strength rope with attached support blocks. If a failure were to occur, the support blocks would catch the conductor and prevent it from falling to the ground.

What do you mean by catenary?

catenary, in mathematics, a curve that describes the shape of a flexible hanging chain or cable—the name derives from the Latin catenaria (“chain”). Any freely hanging cable or string assumes this shape, also called a chainette, if the body is of uniform mass per unit of length and is acted upon solely by gravity.

What is Ohe in electric traction?

In OHE, or overhead electrification systems, the supply of electricity is through an overhead system of suspended cables known as the catenary. The loco uses a pantograph, a metal structure which can be raised or lowered, to make contact with the overhead contact cable and draw electricity from it to power its motors.

What is the catenary problem?

The solution of the catenary problem provides the starting point for consideration of the effects on a suspended cable of extraneous applied forces such as arising from the live loads on a practical suspension bridge.

Is catenary a cable?

In physics and geometry, a catenary (US: /ˈkætənɛri/, UK: /kəˈtiːnəri/) is the curve that an idealized hanging chain or cable assumes under its own weight when supported only at its ends. The catenary is also called the alysoid, chainette, or, particularly in the materials sciences, funicular.

What is stitched catenary construction?

… line or catenary is installed considering a sequence of spans (line span), where each series com- prises an independent system of 15-20 spans considering that the span length is around 60 m. The catenary wire, the stitched wire and the contact wire are tightened by an independent system of pulleys and weights.
