Why did Gandalf not warn them about Moria?

Going through Moria was dangerous because of Durin’s Bane. The movie implies that Gandalf knew there was a balrog in Moria and that is why he didn’t want to go that route, because they could possibly die and lose the ring. Gandalf was not aware of the massive orc presence in Moria so he could not warn them of that.
