It cannot downgrade to anything less than that. I am going to guess a 2013 was Mavericks. Once you verify that, you can actually close out the reinstall process (don’t go through with it yet) and use Disk Utilities to erase your hard drive (Macintosh HD) to give yourself a clean re-install of Mountain Lion.
