Is it possible to track a hard drive?
Sorry to say, but the answer is no. Unlike smartphones today, hard drives don’t have that option (yet). Only direct access to the computer your hard drive was connected to could show you what you are looking for, but there is no automatic online protection system for hard drives in that way.
Do hard drives have GPS?
A standard USB external hard drive has no mechanism like Wi-Fi or GPS to ascertain its location. As a result, there is no way the external drive itself can track its own location.
Can someone steal your hard drive?
Yes, absolutely. You could even do this by booting to a live-CD/USB version of linux and access the windows filesystem that way. The only thing the password does is prevent users of that operating system to log in and make system changes.
Can data be recovered from a lost hard drive?
Yes, files can be recovered from a failed hard drive by using a skilled data recovery service. Failed hard drives cannot be salvaged with recovery software since the operating system cannot access the device to allow the application to recover the data.
Can you tell if files have been copied from an external hard drive?
You can find if some files have been copied or not. Right click on the folder or file you fear that might have been copied, go to properties, you will get information such as date and time of created, modified and accessed. The accessed one changes each time the file is opened or copied without opening.
How can I track my stolen external hard drive?
There is no way to get back a stolen external hard disk. If you have the hard disk encrypted, your information on it should be safe. If you know where it was stolen you should contact the local police and hope they locate it.
Can GPS be detected?
You can ONLY detect a LIVE TRANSMITTING GPS each and every time it sends your location. A data logger that only records history of travels cannot be detected but can be easily found manually as typically they will be hidden the same way a Live Tracker would be concealed.
Can you trust an external hard drive?
